Humility

In martial arts, no one is “done” learning. Even the highest-ranked masters still study, refine, and sometimes go back to basics. That’s humility – knowing you don’t have all the answers, and being open to learning from anyone.

In everyday life, humility helps us grow faster. It stops us from pretending to know everything, and it makes us better listeners. It can turn mistakes into lessons instead of roadblocks.

Think of it like walking around Needham – no matter how many times you do it, there’s always something new to notice if you look with fresh eyes.

Budo teaches us that rank or experience isn’t a wall, it’s just a marker along the path. And the path keeps going.

Brian’s tip? Next time you’re tempted to say “I know this already,” pause and look again. You might find something you missed.
