Satomi Kai Aikido - Suffolk

International Aikido Visit

This month, one of our members took the opportunity to train as a guest at a dojo in the USA.

Richard was in Nebraska as part of a work trip, but not wanting to miss practice had contacted Randy Porter of Aikido Omaha and arranged to join him at his class.

Richard was made to feel extremely welcome at the club. Not only did he make a lot of new friends, but also got in some excellent training from some top quality Aikidoka.  Sensei Randy Porter is himself an Aikikai 4th dan, and many of the other students in the class were black belts and brown belts.

It was a great opportunity to try Aikido at another class, and also of another style. There is always something new to learn. The class ended with a small presentation, before they all went to the pub to socialize the British way.

The trip has built a new bridge between our two clubs, and we hope to have them return the visit some time soon. We’ve stayed in contact since, using Facebook to share tips and ideas.

Aikido Omaha are embarking on challenge shortly to practice 100 sword cuts every day for 100 days, and it’s hoped that members of Satomi Kai will join them for this challenge, with each student finally achieving a total of 10,000 cuts. By the end, we should have both excellent technique, and very strong, sore arms.
